Musicals… I absolutely love musicals. Many people say that it is boring having a movie or a play where instead of the actors talking, they sing. I love this! Instead of just saying something, they sing it. What I like is that when there’s a song, other people from the set or stage start dancing too. It becomes like a big colorful dance with people singing. Watching this makes my day happier! I guess what I like about them is that they are not realistic. People can sing and dance, but in everyday life you don’t see 20 people doing a coordinated dance in the street. That is why many people do not like them- because they say, “This is so not true.” “Like that would actually happen.” “Yeah, right, people don’t dance like that in reality.” So what? Does everything you see have to show what you usually do? Actually, the fact that it doesn’t happen in real life is what makes it fun. It must be hard to participate in a musical, because everything has to be coordinated, especially dances. I’m guessing the actors have to work very hard. But, the final product comes out great! Musicals are actually a big part of cultures. There are some good ones that become so famous that the songs are heard over and over again years after it was presented. Two examples I can think of are GREASE and HAIRSPRAY. The songs, especially from GREASE are known by a lot of people. There are others that are just an interpretation of another movie, and they become big- like for example THE LION KING on Broadway. What I am trying to say here is that just because musicals are not realistic, it doesn’t mean they are dumb or boring. They have their own charm, and they make you forget about a lot of problems that society is facing today. It is also good to watch movies about realistic stuff, or issues and problems humans have, but it is good to “have fun” once in a while. When people watch a musical (either a movie or a play) 9 out of 10 enjoy it and have fun, as I like to call it. Seeing how the actors interpret the songs and the music makes me want to dance! When I see people singing and moving to the music, it makes me forget about all my problems. It also makes me think about the inner me. I think everyone has an inner someone that dances and sings when they are happy. Nowadays, people are so worried about everything that they forget how to be happy and… dance! Music is like the light out of everyone’s darkness. With music, anyone can get through their problems. I think music also makes you appreciate things more. Like in a song, the lyrics are so significant that they make me wonder. They make me think. And that is part of why I like music so much. It always has a meaning! I just found out why I like musicals so much, because the music in them makes them so… musical!

In my last post, I posted two videos. There were a lot of things that flashed through my mind when I saw them. First video (jazz choreography): The reason why I posted this video was because I really liked the actual choreography, and I like the skills the dancers had. When I see this video, the first thing that flashes through my mind is, “Wow! They are good.” They probably have been a long time dancing, and they have a lot of experience. Maybe when you see this video, you just think the choreography is cool and that is it. I am just guessing, because I know that before I danced, that is pretty much what I would think. On the other hand, when I see the video, it hypnotizes me. What I mean is that I feel connected to it. As soon as the music starts and they dance, my mind says, “I want to dance right now!” That also happens when I watch a choreography in a any other place, my mind and body want to be part of it. Second video (ballet video):I absolutely loved this video! I liked it because it has a lot of “steps”, or whatever you want to call them, and they are all together in one fun video. As I said with the other video, you probably watch it and don’t feel much about it. Maybe you just think they are really good, and that’s it. When I see this, I feel something. First, I think, “I want to be as good as them, I want to be able to do what they do.” This leads me to another thought which is becoming better. This is because I know that if I practice and try my best, someday I will be like them. Everything is possible if you try right? Watching this video is very good for me because every time I watch it (I mean every time) I want to be better. That is why it is good.
